Bee Balanced is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt corporation dedicated to the preservation of pollinator habitat in urban and rural environments and to creating meaningful connections between people, pollinators, and the planet.
It all began with a question.
“What are you going to do with the bees?”
Bee Balanced was founded in response to the widespread public policy of exterminating bees found on public property. Acting locally, the founders of Bee Balanced asked their Town for permission to relocate a feral bee colony before it was exterminated. The Town approved, and Bee Balanced was transformed from a question into a project.
Bee Balanced has been rescuing wild bee colonies from inside irrigation boxes and from under bridges since 2023. We relocate the bees to an apiary where they are treated for parasites and disease.
Almost all feral bee colonies in Arizona are Africanized “killer” bees, so a new queen is introduced to the colony to dilute aggressive genetic lines. This makes humans and animals safer around the colony, makes the colony easier to manage, and reduces the likelihood of humans destroying these needed pollinators.
Who does this?
People like you.
Bee Balanced members are engineers, homemakers, clerks, students, gardeners, backyard beekeepers, construction workers, writers, retirees, and anyone with an interest in promoting and protecting the pollinators that make our lives not only possible, but delightful.
